Texas A&M softball players Megan Gibson, Sharonda McDonald and Amanda Scarborough were named to the 2005 NFCA Midwest All-Region team, the association announced Wednesday.

Gibson, a freshman from Spring, Texas, and Scarborough, a freshman from Magnolia, Texas, were named to the NFCA All-Region first team while McDonald, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, was named to the second team.

All three players played key roles in the Aggies Big 12 championship season and the team's top five national ranking.

Gibson, selected as a designated player, leads the Big 12 in home runs (18) and slugging percentage (.855) while ranking third nationally in home runs per game (0.36), second in RBI per game (1.12), seventh in slugging and 20th in runs per game (0.92). The first-team All-Big 12 selection has knocked in a team-high 56 RBI.

Scarborough, who was selected as a utility player, had a fantastic season both in the circle and in the batters box. She is currently 26-1 in the circle with a miniscule 0.63 ERA. As a hitter, Scarborough is just as dominant as she leads the nation's best hitting team with a .408 average (27th nationally) while hitting 11 home runs and driving in 43 RBI. The first-team All-Big 12 selection was also named the Big 12 Freshman and Big 12 Player of they Year.

McDonald, a lefty-hitting center fielder, is third on the team with a .367 average and leads the team with 53 runs on 58 hits. She has not been caught stealing all season and leads the nation with 48 steals in 48 games. The first-team All-Big 12 selection is second in the nation in runs per game (1.1)
