Texas A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal has been named to the "watch list" for the 2005 Maxwell Award, which is given annually to the nation's top collegiate football player.

In 2004, McNeal, a senior from Lufkin, Texas, had a record-setting junior campaign that included school records in passing yards and total offense. McNeal, a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award in 2004, passed for 2,791 yards and 14 touchdowns on 200-of-344 passing, while rushing for a quarterback school record 718 yards. He was responsible for 3,509 yards of total offense, which broke the old school mark by over 800 yards.

Players selected to the watch list have distinguished themselves as All Conference or All American selections from their respective universities in past years. McNeal was a consensus second-team All-Big 12 selection at quarterback in 2004 and was named to the first team by the Dallas Morning News.

Ten semi-finalists for the 69th Maxwell Award will be announced in October 2005 and the field will be trimmed to three finalists in November 2005. The winner of the Maxwell Award will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show that will be broadcast on ESPN in December 2005. The formal presentation of the Maxwell Award will take place at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Banquet in February 2006.
