Texas A&M freshman soccer players Cydne and Natalie Currie have suffered season-ending knee injuries and will not play for the Aggies in 2005, head coach G Guerrieri announced Friday.

The twins each tore the anterior cruciate ligament in the left knee in practices this week--Natalie during the first practice of the fall on Wednesday and Cydne on Thursday.

"This is a definite setback for us and it's a shame that these two sisters are going to miss playing this season," Guerrieri said. "It happened early enough in the year though that both of these players will be able to play full four-year careers."

The Currie sisters signed with the Aggies in Feburary out of MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas. They were part of A&M's recruiting class that was once again ranked among the best in the nation.

"Since these unfortunate injuries happened during preseason training, we will be able to make adjustments as a team and have the whole year to work them out," Guerrieri said. "We have a very deep and talented squad and this just brings up new opportunities for other players."

Texas A&M returns 10 starters and 23 letterwinners from a 2004 squad that won the Big 12's regular season and tournament championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 10th consecutive season.

The Aggies open the year on Saturday, Aug. 20 with an exhibition match against Southern Miss at the Aggie Soccer Complex. A&M begins the regular season at home on Friday, Aug. 26 against Stephen F. Austin. Kickoff for both matches is set for 8 p.m. Single-match and season tickets are available by logging on to www.aggieathletics.com or by calling 1-888-99-AGGIE.
