The Texas A&M football team practiced for just over two hours in full pads in its lone workout of the day Wednesday morning at the grass practice facility near Kyle Field.
Following the conclusion of the 11th practice session of fall camp, athletic department director of performance nutrition Amy Bragg had slices of watermelon waiting for the players as they departed the field.
Members of the Aggies' highly touted freshman signing class are making an impact on the make-up of the team's projected depth chart. According to A&M coach Dennis Franchione, freshman tight end Martellus Bennett and freshman receiver Howard Morrow will see playing time this season.
"I don't think there is any doubt that Martellus (Bennett) will play in the game," Franchione said. "He'll play and do a lot of different things in the game most likely. We have not solidified the game plan or anything like that, but he is not going to redshirt this year."
Franchione said Bennett is showing his versatility in practice both as a tight end and as a receiver.
"He could do either one and be successful," Franchione said. "He's 250 pounds. He's successful in tight and we would have no problem putting him in the slot or as a one receiver side split out guy or anywhere for that matter. He's athletically gifted and he can make plays. Those are the kind of guys you want to get on the field."
Morrow is turning heads at wide receiver and Franchione expects him to be on the two-deep.
"Howard Morrow will be in the two deep," Franchione said. "There's probably not much doubt about that. Being a true receiver in high school, and well coached in high school, he knows how to play the position. He's learning the nuances of our offense and playing at this level, but Howard Morrow is a good football player and he will play this year."
The No. 17-ranked Aggies will practice twice on Thursday as preparations continue for the season opener at Clemson on Sept. 3. The game will be televised by ABC Sports.
