August 17, 2005
Howdy guys! And welcome to the first entry of my Aggie Soccer Diary - Season 2.
Can you believe it's that time again?! Aggie Soccer 2005 is just around the corner and I am ecstatic. I must say, it has been a long winter, a long but successful spring, and a summer of hard work, but as of six days ago we have reinvaded our favorite piece of grass here in Aggieland. Preseason 2005 officially took flight on August 10th, and let me be the first to say that it feels GOOD to be back. We've spent the summer all over the country, playing with other teams and working individually to prepare for this, but nothing compares to playing on an Aggie soccer field in an Aggie soccer uniform. It feels like home to me and I love it.
And WHOOP to being a senior! There are six of us this year, all thrilled at the opportunities that stand before us in this final season of our careers. We have the chance to go out in the greatest of fashion and you had better believe that we are more than willing to lay everything on the line for that chance. Becky, Carrie, Emily, Janelle, Kati Jo and I have big plans for this season and I hope that you all are as excited as we are about the months to come. There will be some GREAT soccer this fall, I can promise you that.
The first week of practice brought forth the upsetting loss of freshman sisters Natalie and Cydne Currie to dual ACL injuries. I think the team felt the effects of losing these two players immediately. It is so hard to see fellow teammates' seasons come to an end when for the rest of us everything is just beginning, and I think there was an immediate closeness felt between the new freshmen class and the rest of the team. We all pulled together to support Nat and Cyd, and they have remained so strong throughout the past week. I am very proud of how mature these two young players have been in this unfair situation, and they have continued to support their teammates and bring forth positive attitudes in practice. Four other girls round out the new class, with Micah, Emily, and LG completing the freshmen class and EJ transferring in as a junior from Kentucky. In one short week, these players have managed to introduce a new dynamic to the team, yet at the same time compliment the Aggie style of play. I feel that they already fit in so well with the rest of the team, and will play a huge part in our success this season.
The hard work of two-a-days will continue throughout the week, with our first preseason game this Saturday, August 20th at 8 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Complex. I hope that you all will come to see us battle it out with Southern Miss and allow us to instill in you the excitement that has been building in us ever since last season's abrupt ending. Aggie Soccer is ready for something big and I truly believe that this year we have what it takes to make it happen. It's gonna be AWESOME, and trust me, you won't wanna miss it!
I'll be in touch soon...thanks and gig 'em y'all! :)
