In a battle of Canadians, former UNLV standout J.C. Deacon edged Texas A&M senior Andrew Parr, 2 and 1, on Wednesday in the first round of match play at the 105th U.S. Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club.
Parr took a 1 up lead after a birdie on the second hole, but bogeyed the fourth to square the match. Deacon assumed a 2 up lead after Parr bogeyed the sixth and eighth, then Parr pulled even after winning the 9th and 10th holes.
Parr faltered with consecutive bogeys on the 11th and 12th as Deacon again built a 2 up lead. Deacon closed out the match with a par on the 17th.
