Ashlee Pistorius, last year's Big 12 Rookie of the Year, helped lead the Aggies passed the TCU Horned Frogs 4-0 on Sunday, August 28th, before a record crowd of 1,910 fans at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
"We've set high goals as a team this season," commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. "With two shutouts to start, we're meeting those goals."
Pistorius added her second goal of the season when she scored the game-winner just under five minutes into the first half. The goal was scored off a free kick from 18 yards out on the left side, and sailed passed TCU goalkeeper, Ashley Pierret.
An assist was recorded for Pistorius in the 44th minute of play as she passed the ball to Suzzett Devloo for the Aggie's second goal of the game. The goal cruised easily into the back of the net from only five yards out. TCU's Pierret injured her left knee on the play and was replaced by Katy Buchanan.
In the 57th minute of play, Melissa Garey sent a cross to the left side of the field, finding Pistorius for a header that TCU's Buchanan had no chance of saving, giving the Aggies a 3-0 lead.
Garey gave the Aggies even more insurance, contributing her third goal of the season off a double assist by Linda Pierson and Suzzett Devloo. Garey put away a soft shot into the top left of the net in the 83rd minute of play.
"With Garey and Pistorius having scored three goals apiece this season, it showed we can score different goals from different situations," said Guerrieri. "It makes it difficult for opponents to know how to stack up."
The Aggies outshot the Frogs, 26-6, and took 5 corners while TCU only took 1. Five of TCU's 6 shots came in the second half.
The Aggies will travel to East Lansing, Michigan to take on the Michigan State Spartans at Old College Field this Friday, September 2. This will be the first meeting between the Aggies and the Spartans. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
