Texas A&M's Melissa Garey, a sophomore midfielder/forward from Gonzalez, La. was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career after earning a Newcomer of the Week accolade last year, the league office announced Monday.

"This is a nice honor for Melissa," commented A&M head coach G. Guerrieri. "It is well deserved. Melissa works incredibly hard and that hard work paid off this weekend."

Garey came off the bench in the Aggie's season-opener against Stephen F. Austin to contribute two goals. She earned a starting spot in last Sunday's game vs. TCU and recorded her third goal of the season along with an assist. Garey ended the weekend with seven points.

Oklahoma's Jennifer Nichols was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, while Texas' Kasey Moore took home the award for Newcomer of the Week. These were the first career Big 12 honors for Nichols and Moore.

The Aggies take the field again on Friday when they travel to East Lansing, Mich. to take on the Michigan State Spartans at Old College Field. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
