Five members of the 14th-ranked Texas A&M soccer team earned all-tournament honors following the Aggies' pair of victories in the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic over the weekend.
A&M took home the tournament championship with shutout wins over Washington (6-0) and No. 16 Stanford (1-0).
Sophomore forward Melissa Garey was named the tournament's offensive MVP after scoring two of the six goals in the landslide victory over Washington on Friday. Amy Berend, a sophomore midfielder, took home the award for defensive MVP.
Also representing the Aggies on the all-tournament team were senior goalkeeper Kati Jo Spisak, who posted two shutouts and is sporting a 0.28 goals against average; senior midfielder Laura Probst, who not only recorded two assists in Friday's match but also netted two goals of her own; and sophomore defender Paige Carmichael, who scored her first goal of the season against the Huskies.
"Many of the girls on our team played well in the tournament this weekend," commented A&M head coach G. Guerrieri. "It's nice to see some of our great players start to receive personal accolades for their unselfish work."
The Aggies kickoff conference play Friday when they head to Columbia to take on the Missouri Tigers at Audrey J. Walton Track/Soccer Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and live scoring of the match will be available on aggieathletics.com.
