A&M Exploring Options with Football Game to Avoid Hurricane Rita
COLLEGE STATION, Texas-Texas A&M is exploring a variety of options concerning its football game against Texas State scheduled for Saturday night in an effort to avoid the effects of the forecasted track of Hurricane Rita, but no final decisions have been made, the school's athletic department said Tuesday.
Athletic department officials met with meteorologists and other officials on Tuesday to discuss options for playing the game.
"We are currently evaluating the weather situation and looking into various options," Athletic Director Bill Byrne said. "The priorities are keeping people out of dangerous situations and being able to help others who may need some assistance from our community. We will keep our fans informed of any decisions made about playing the football game as soon as possible."
University President Dr. Robert Gates is expected to make an announcement on Wednesday about when the football game will be played.
