Texas A&M midfielder Amy Berend was named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week, Wednesday, after being deemed defensive MVP of the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic for helping shutout Washington (6-0) and then No. 16 Stanford (1-0).
"Amy is improving everyday in practice and in every game we play," A&M head coach G Guerrieri commented. "I believe she is truly one of the nation's elite players and it's exciting to see her hard work acknowledged in a way such as this."
Berend garnered numerous honors in the 2004 season, including being honored as a Soccer Buzz 3rd Team Freshman All-American. She was also selected to the Big 12 all-tournament team and Big 12 all-newcomer team.
The 14th-ranked Aggies take the field on Friday against Missouri at 7 p.m. at Audrey J. Walton Complex in Columbia, Mo.
