It's always so hard to know what to say after a weekend with an extremely tough loss. I know that everyone is so frustrated with the turn out in Sunday's game and walked away with emptiness and disappointment. We all know that playing t.u. is sure to be an intense game, both mentally and physically. Every year they come out with strength and fire to beat their biggest rivals. Unfortunately, this year they had just enough to do it. The fact that they scored two quick goals at the start of the second half put us into a bigger hole than we were able to crawl out. Once we got one on the board, I felt that we livened up and really started to play with guts. Obviously, it was too little too late. Sometimes things just don't go the way you plan. You envision something happening, how it's all going to pan out, and then when it happens it is completely different. I think we also got a little unlucky. We had some tough breaks. The ball just seemed to bounce the other way. But, you must give credit where credit is due. Texas did what they needed to--they capitalized on their opportunities and, when it came down to it, got the job done.
It is so hard for us to accept defeat. We are a team of winners, a team of champions, and we do not take losses lightly. I have no doubt that every player on this team has spent the last two days replaying the game in her mind and continually recalling what things she could have done differently. If given an opportunity to replay Sunday's match, I know we all would give our most prized possessions for even the slightest chance at a different outcome. But I feel it is important that we not dwell too long on what we cannot change. At this point in the season, another chance is not in our hands. And in order to find success, we must focus on what is.
This weekend we play two HUGE conference games. Iowa State and Nebraska are both powerhouse teams who look to out-muscle their opponents. I am so glad that we get to play them on our own field. Home field advantage is such a strong asset for us and something that we must strive to protect. I know that this weekend and all week at practice the Aggies will show up with an amplified attitude to compete. We cannot wait for another opportunity to get on the field and weaken the memories of last weekend. I am really counting on all of you to come out and support us in these games. We need you in full force as we take on two of the best teams we will see all season. The Aggies are calling on the 12th Man this weekend...come help us out! :
I hope everyone has a great week. I will be counting down the hours until we get to line up, the whistle blows, and another match is under way at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. See you then!
