With two wins over McClennan on Tuesday at the Bryan High Softball Field, the Aggie softball team improves to 4-0 in fall play, and will face the Blinn College Lady Bucs in a two-game set at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The games will again be played at the Bryan High facilities.
A&M won the first game 1-0 as All-American Amanda Scarborough worked a complete game no-hitter, striking out 12 of the McClennan Highlassies.
The Aggies won the second game of the evening in a 9-1 run-rule. Scarborough hit a single through the left-side that scored Jami Lobpries from second to complete the run-rule.
A&M managed to score four runs in the second inning when Megan Gibson, Scarborough, Holly Ridley and Rocky Spencer scored after reaching on two errors, a double and a single.
Gibson, an All-American last season who posted a conference-high 18 home runs while toting a .823 slugging percentage, added two runs in the third inning with a towering shot over the centerfield fence. Bryan natives Beverly Rowan and Lisa Gorzycki added two runs of their own in the fourth.
Gorzycki struck-out four batters on her way to a complete game victory in game two.
"I was glad to see our players make some adjustments between games," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "Scarborough did a good job of controlling game one, but offensively and defensively we were not as sharp as we needed to be, so I challenged the players to adjust their approach and they answered with a much improved performance in game two. We were more aggressive at the plate and we hit the ball well. Lisa Gorzyki had good command of her pitches and did a good job of throwing outs. As a coach it is always nice to see your players step up to a challenge and get the job done."
All fans are reminded that fall games are being played at the Bryan High School softball field while construction is being completed on the new playing surface at the Aggie Softball Complex. Also, fans attending games at the Bryan High facilities should park in the swimming pool parking lot or the outer edges of the main parking lot, outside the yellow lines.
