Senior Jerad Harklau fired a four-under-par 68 on Tuesday to lead Texas A&M to a third-place finish at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate at Old Memorial Golf Club.
Harklau tied for seventh in the individual standings with an four-under 72-72-68=212 total, five shots behind champion Matt Kohn of Kentucky, who posted a nine-under 207.
No. 9 ranked Florida captured the team title with a tournament-record score of 840 to edge No. 16 Kentucky (843) by three strokes. A&M was third with rounds of 289-291-286=866, followed by No. 17 LSU (867), South Florida (867), Toledo (867), No. 11 Georgia State (868), No. 24 Florida State (870), Central Florida (875), North Florida (889), College of Charleston (892) and Arkansas (896).
A&M sophomore Robert Gates, Jr., tied for 10th at 69-71-73=213, while freshman Bronson Burgoon tied for 35th (75-71-75=221), sophomore Trey Todd tied for 39th (75-77-70=222) and junior Chris Massoletti tied for 51st (73-79-77=229).
The Aggies were playing without their top player, senior Andrew Parr, who is competing for Canada at The Spirit International Amateur beginning on Wednesday in Trinity, Texas.
"I'm really happy with the way we played today," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "Jerad and Trey stepped up and brought us back a little bit. Everybody on the team fought hard. This tournament showed us how every shot matters because one or two shots out of 866 was the difference between a good and a bad tournament."
The Aggies close their fall schedule at the Landfall Tradition Oct. 21-23 in Wilmington, N.C.
