Behind the solid pitching of All-American Amanda Scarborough, Bryan-native Lisa Gorzycki and junior Christina Smith the Aggie softball team took two from the Galveston College Whitecaps (8-0, 10-2) Tuesday at the Bryan High softball field. With the wins, the Aggies improve to 8-0 in their fall season.

"We did a good job making adjustments at the plate as the night went on," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "We saw a lot of different pitchers and I was pleased with our approach at the plate. Defensively I thought we looked sharp. We did a nice job with our rotations, assignments and throws and all of our pitchers were effective hitting their spots and keeping the Whitecap hitters off balance."

In game one, Scarborough allowed only one hit while striking out eight in route to a complete game shutout. Offensively, the Aggies racked up nine hits, including two triples, a double and a homerun off the bat of Joy Davis in the fourth inning, giving A&M a 7-0 lead.

The Ags first runs came in the third inning when David reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and was driven in off a single by Jamie Hinshaw; who had a stolen base of her own, reaching third on a past ball before scoring on a single by Rhonda Smith who went 2-2 in the game with a walk. Megan Gibson recorded an RBI scoring Smith for the third run of the inning off a two-out double.

Gorzycki started in the circle for A&M in game two and Smith finished it off. The duo only allowed two runs to score off three hits in the Aggies second victory of the day.

Gibson's bat was on fire in the second game as she went 3-3 with two RBI, three runs scored on two triples and a single. Holly Ridley was 2-2 in the game with two RBI and a walk.

The Aggies head to Spring to play in the Spring-Klein Classic this weekend. They will play five games in two days, starting with Alvin College at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning and closing the tournament against North Texas at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Please note all fall games are being played at the Bryan High facilities while construction is being completed on the new playing surface at the Aggie Softball Complex.
