Aggie junior speedster, Sharonda McDonald was named by the National Fastpitch Coach's Association as one of eight student-athletes to receive the 2005 adidas Golden Shoe Award.
McDonald was a member of the 2005 Aggie softball team that won the Big 12 conference title and advanced to a NCAA Super Regional with an overall record of 47-10. She was a rare, perfect 48-48 in stolen bases during 51 games played which amounted to 0.94 steals a game. The Aggie outfielder also hit .360 with nine RBIs while recording a team-best 53 runs scored.
"It is exciting to see Sharonda being recognized as the premier base stealer in the nation," commented Aggie head coach Jo Evans. "Besides her raw speed, Sharonda has some of the finest instincts on the base paths. To go through an entire season without being caught stealing is quite an accomplishment. I couldn't be happier for her because she is such a talent and on top of that she is one of the finest people I have ever been associated with. She has a competitive, humble and cheerful attitude and is a huge part of the program here at Texas A&M."
The Golden Shoe Award is sponsored by adidas, the NFCA's Official Footwear, and is presented to athletes from NFCA member schools in each of the following eight divisions: NCAA (Divisions I, II and III), NAIA, NJCAA (Divisions I, II and III), and Cal JC. The 2005 adidas Golden Show Award winners were determined by divisional committees made up of NFCA member coaches.
