Texas A&M senior Andrew Parr and partner James Allenby carded a three-under-par 69 on Friday and fell to second place at The Spirit International Amateur Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club.

The Parr-Allenby team has posted a 54-hole score of 17-under 64-66-69=199 and trails Germany (66-67-62=195) by four shots going into Saturday's final round. The Germans fired a blazing 62 on Friday to charge past Canada, which entered the day with a four-stroke advantage. The United States is tied for seventh at 14-under.

Parr is tied for 14th in the individual standings with 10 birdies. Allenby leads with 16.

Founded in 2001, The Spirit is a biennial event that has been called the Olympics of golf. Two men golfers and two women golfers, representatives of the 24 participating countries, compete for international team, gender team and individual honors.

The 24 participating countries earned an invitation through their performance at the 2004 World Amateur Team Championships. The Spirit is played during the alternate years of the World Amateur event and is the only international golf event that simulates Olympic-like competition for men and women golfers.
