The 19th-ranked Texas A&M women's soccer team has teamed up with the Aggie women's basketball team in an effort to reward the academic progress of students across the Bryan/College Station community.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing this promotion reward the academic efforts of the young people in the Brazos Valley," commented A&M head soccer coach G Guerrieri. "It's important that these kids see how valuable academics are and that our student-athletes are students first."

All students, K-8th grade, who bring a report card to the A&M soccer match against Colorado on Friday night, will get into the game free. Then, if the report card shows all A's and B's the student will receive a free pass from one of the Aggie women's basketball players to attend one of their games during the 2005-2006 season.

"Excelling in academics is important and any time we can reward kids for good academics I think it's great," said A&M head women's basketball coach Gary Blair. "Few kids get the chance to play athletics at the college level, but many get the chance to be college students. I'm glad that we are rewarding that hard work in the classroom."

The soccer match against Colorado begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
