The 11th-ranked Texas A&M soccer team will be playing for its second straight Big 12 championship on Friday night when the Aggies host Baylor on "Senior Night" at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
?This is another big home game for us,? commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. ?It?â„¢s great to be playing for a championship at home in front of the best supporters in the country and it?â„¢s doubly great that we?â„¢ll be able to honor our seniors before the game.?
A&M (12-3-2, 6-2-1 Big 12) can with a win give the program its first back-to-back regular-season titles in school history. A victory would also seal the No. 1 seed in next week's Big 12 Tournament in San Antonio.
In addition, Texas A&M's six seniors--Carrie Berend, Emily DeWoody, Janelle Green, Becky Olson, Laura Probst and Kati Jo Spisak--will be honored prior to the match.
Last weekend, the Aggies picked up two wins over Colorado (2-1) and Texas Tech (7-0) to put them in first place in the Big 12 Standings. Sophomore forward, Melissa Garey, continues to lead the conference in goals scored, adding her 13th, 14th and 15th goals of the season against CU and TTU.
Ashlee Pistorius and Garey are now tied for the league lead in total points (32). Spisak remains in first place with the best goals against average in the Big 12 (0.76).
Baylor (4-11-2, 2-6-1 Big 12) is coming off a weekend in which they defeated Texas Tech (3-1) and tied Colorado (0-0) in double overtime. The Bears are coached by George Van Linder who?â„¢s in his in his third season with the program. The Aggies lead the all-time series with Baylor, 5-4-1.
