Texas A&M returns to G. Rollie White Coliseum Friday as the Aggies play host to the Oklahoma Sooners. First serve has been moved to 6 p.m. so that fans also will have time to attend the Aggie soccer match against Baylor at 8 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
A&M has lost its last four matches to fall to 9-11 overall and 2-9 in the Big 12. The Aggies, who are in 10th place in the league standings, are coming off a 3-0 loss at No. 14 Texas on Wednesday. Laura Jones, who entered the week leading the nation in kills per game, led the Aggies with 14 kills. With her eighth kill of the game, Jones became A&M?â„¢s all-time kill leader, breaking the previous record of 1,777 set by Kristie Smedsrud (1994-97).
Oklahoma (6-15, 1-11 Big 12) ended a 12-match losing skid and won its first Big 12 match with a 3-2 victory over Texas Tech Wednesday in Norman. Five Sooners reached double figures in kills, including a team-high 18 by Eliane Santos. Santos and teammate Anna Stadel had 10 block assists apiece to pace the Sooners to a school-record 42 block assists.
The Aggies have won the last 25 meetings against the Sooners, including all 19 Big 12 matches, and are 28-1 all-time against OU. Oklahoma?â„¢s only victory against A&M was Sept. 15, 1979, at the North Texas State tournament in Denton, Texas.
In the most recent meeting, A&M ended a six-match losing skid and picked up its first Big 12 victory of the season on Oct. 8 by defeating the Sooners, 30-25, 25-30, 30-26, 30-22, in Norman. Jones led A&M with 30 kills. Christi Hahn added 11 kills while hitting at a .423 clip and also tallied a match-high six blocks as A&M outhit the Sooners, .285 to .214 and outblocked them, 12-8. Stadel and Santos led OU, combining for 32 kills and a .4901 hitting percentage.
