White Squad Takes Game One in Dramatic Fashion

Andy Howes?â„¢ RBI single in the top of the 10th plated John Infante, who tripled to start the inning, to give the Whites a 4-3 win over the Maroons in game one of the 2005 Texas A&M Maroon and White Series on Thursday at Olsen Field.

Trailing 2-1 and heading into the ninth, the White team scored a pair of runs to take its first lead of the game. Todd Sebek doubled to start the inning and with one out Austin Boggs delivered an RBI double. Adam Hale then singled to score Boggs.

The Maroons answered in the bottom of the ninth with a run to send the game to extra frames. Blake Stouffer was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to third on a single to right by Craig Stinson. Keith Stein reached on a fielder?â„¢s choice and Stouffer scored the tying run in the process.

Both starting pitchers had excellent outings. Kyle Nicholson allowed just one run on three hits in eight-complete inning of work. He struck out six and retired the last 13 men he faced.

White starter Jason Meyer turned in an equally impressive outing, tossing seven-complete innings. He allowed two runs ?- one earned ?- on three hits.

Austin Creps earned the win after pitching the final three innings and allowing one run on three hits in relief.

Anthony Vasquez suffered the loss, allowing the winning run in the top of the 10th.

Maroon scored first in the bottom of the second when Meyer ran into control problems. With one out in the inning, Craig Stinson, Keith Stein and Matt Ueckert walked to load the bases. Kyle Colligan followed sacrifice fly to right to plate Stinson and make the score 1-0.

The Maroons added another run in the bottom of the third to increase their lead to 2-0. Ben Maitland was hit by a pitch and moved to second when Brandon Glover reached on an error. Meyer then coaxed Jose Salazar to ground into a double play but Maitland moved to third on the play. Ryan Hill then delivered a clutch two-out RBI single to left.

The Whites cut the in half in the top of the fourth to make the score 2-1. With two outs, Nicholson walked Adam Hale, who promptly stole second. After Jake Vasquez was hit by a Nicholson offering, Jess Buenger sharply singled to left to chase Hale across the plate.

Boggs paced the White team offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored while Craig Stinson and Josh Stinson had two hits each for the Maroon team.

The series continues on Friday, with game two beginning at 7 p.m. and will conclude with game three on Saturday at 10 a.m. Regular parking rules for football game days will be in effect for Saturday?â„¢s game.
