Ashlee Pistorius tied a school record for most goals in a game with four as she helped lead the No. 11 Texas A&M soccer team to its second consecutive Big 12 Regular Season Championship, beating Baylor 4-0, on Senior Night, Friday, in front of 4,543 fans at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
?You can?™t get too used to winning and being able to lift trophies,? commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. ?It?™s a real testament to the hard work of these players. It?™s been a crazy season of sorts and it just goes to show how tough this league is and how tough it is to win this league. To win it out right is a real accomplishment for us.?
With the win the Aggies improve to 13-3-2, 7-2-1 in Big 12. The loss drops Baylor to 4-12-2, 2-7-1 in conference.
Pistorius?™ first goal came in the 8th minute off a cross from Kat Krambeer to Melissa Garey who found the sophomore forward in the top of the box and with a soft touch, finished the game-winner; her 12th of the season.
Five minutes later Laura Probst added her sixth assist of the season on a pass into the lower right end of the box that found Pistorius ready to net her 13th goal of 2005
The Aggies went into halftime with a 2-0 lead, having outshot the Bears 11-4 and taking three corners while BU took none.
A&M kept possession of the ball for the majority of the second half and in the 66th minute Pistorius finished her second career hat-trick, unassisted as she dribbled past the Baylor defense and beat Bear goalkeeper, Ashley Holder, one-on-one.
With 12:50 left in the match, Garey again found Pistorius in the lower end of the box. The goal was Pistorius?™ fourth of the night and 15th on the season, tying her with Garey for the league lead.
?I think Baylor is a much better team than 4-0 indicates, Ashlee Pistorius scored four big- time goals to do it,? Guerrieri said. ?We had a lot of emotion going on out there with it being senior night. Linda Pierson had another great game in the backfield and Kati Jo [Spisak] was rock solid, we?™ll definitely take it [the win]. Anytime you can experience something like this is really special.?
Pistorius was named State Farm Player of the Game, scoring all four of the Aggies?™ goals on the night.
The Aggies will defend their Big 12 Tournament title on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Blossom Athletic Complex in San Antonio. Fans unable to attend the match can access live audio and stats for the tournament by logging on to AggieAthletics.com
