Texas A&M (10-11 3-9 Big 12) looks to avenge an earlier four-game home loss to Baylor (14-10, 5-7 Big 12) when the two teams meet Wednesday in Waco. First serve is at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center. (A complete release in pdf format is available at AggieAthletics.com.)
The Aggies are in ninth place in the league standings and are coming off a 3-0 sweep against Oklahoma on Friday, which snapped an A&M four-match losing skid.
Baylor is in seventh place in the conference race and riding a four-match winning streak, which began with the Bears?â„¢ victory against A&M in College Station on Oct. 19. Most recently, the Bears came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Iowa State, 30-27, 27-30, 23-30, 30-22, 15-13, Saturday in Ames.
Laura Jones, who became A&M?â„¢s all-time leader in kills last week at Texas, leads the Big 12 and is second in the nation with 4.79 kills per game. She also is averaging a Big 12-leading 6.5 points per game. Jones?â„¢ 3.07 digs per game ranks second on the team to senior libero Holly Clay, who is listed second in the conference with 4.18 digs per game. Sophomore Kelly Stanton is the team leader in blocks with a 1.04 average.
Junior outside hitter Nicole LeBlanc leads Baylor with 3.66 kills per game. Senior middle blocker Stella Odion is hitting a team-best .319 and is second on the squad with 3.22 kills and 1.23 blocks per game. Desiree Guilliard-Young tops the team with 1.85 blocks per game to lead the Bears to a second-place ranking in the Big 12 team listings with 3.14 blocks per game.
The All-Time Series: A&M holds a commanding 51-8 lead in the all-time series since 1976, including a 15-4 mark in Big 12 matches only. Baylor, however, snapped an 11-match losing streak against the Aggies with a 30-27, 30-24, 26-30, 30-26 victory over A&M on Oct. 19 in College Station. It marked the Bears?â„¢ first Big 12 victory at G. Rollie White, as well as Baylor?â„¢s first overall victory in College Station since Nov. 11, 1992, a span of 12 matches.
A&M has won the last five meetings in Waco. Baylor?â„¢s most recent home victory over A&M was a 3-2 upset against the 14th-ranked Aggies at the Ferrell Center on Oct. 6, 1999.
Upcoming: Texas A&M has a bye this weekend before beginning a three-match home stand starting with No. 1 Nebraska on Wednesday, Nov. 9 Match time is at 6:30 p.m. at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
