Texas A&M won its fourth consecutive match and its sixth out of the last seven by sweeping Texas Tech, 30-28, 30-28, 30-25, in front of 1,387 at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
The Aggies, who had lost to Tech in five games in Lubbock last month, had to fight from behind in every frame to clinch the victory and improve to 15-12 overall and 8-10 in the Big 12. Tech lost its ninth consecutive match and falls to 11-19, 4-15.
Tech equaled its largest lead of Game 1 at 26-23, but three consecutive Red Raider errors knotted the score. Kiley Lyons kept Tech in the lead with a kill, but A&M?â„¢s Laura Jones tied the score for the 11th time with a kill, and a Tech attack error gave the Aggies their first lead since a match-opening kill. A&M kept the lead and was up, 29-28, when Jones recorded her fifth kill to clinch the game.
The Red Raiders led by as many as six points four times throughout the second game, the last coming at 23-17 to force an A&M timeout. The Aggies followed with a 10-4 scoring run to tie the game, and Kelsey Bryant gave A&M its first lead with an ace. Christi Hahn, the AVCA National Player of the Week, posted a kill to put the Aggies at game point, but Philister Sang kept the Red Raiders alive with a kill. Hahn answered with her sixth kill of the game and gave the Aggies a two-game lead heading into the intermission.
A&M jumped out to a 5-0 lead to begin Game 3, but Tech came back and took its first lead at 11-10 on a kill by Sang. Back-to-back kills by Jones regained the lead for A&M at 12-11, but the Red Raiders went on a 7-3 run to build their biggest lead of the game at 18-15. A kill by Hahn, a solo block by Aggie setter Kari Kelley and a kill by Jones knotted the score, and A&M took the lead on a Tech attack error.
The Red Raiders tied the score at 20 and 21-all, but Jones sparked the Aggies with three kills during a 5-0 run. Tech could get no closer than three points before Bryant capped the victory with her eighth kill of the match
Jones led the Aggies with a match-high 21 digs, and she added 11 digs to record her 17th double-double of the season. Hahn also reached double digits in kills with 10. Holly Clay led in digs with 21, and Kelley led the Aggies in blocks with five, including a career-high three solo blocks.
Sang led Tech with 13 kills and Amy Charlebois added 12 in the loss. Lyons was the team leader in digs with 13 and tied Brianna Florus for match-high honors in blocks with seven as Tech outblocked A&M, 10 to 6.5.
