Former Texas A&M quarterback Bucky Richardson will serve as Honorary Captain for the Aggies prior to their State Farm Lone Star Showdown against Texas on Friday at 11 a.m. at Kyle Field.
Richardson, an All-Southwest Conference selection in 1991, led the Aggies to the 1988 Cotton Bowl and 1990 Holiday Bowl victories.
Against Notre Dame in the ?â„¢88 Cotton Bowl, Richardson was named Most Valuable Player as a freshman after rushing for 96 yards and two touchdowns while directing the Aggies to the victory in the second half.
Then, against BYU in the ?â„¢90 Holiday Bowl, Richardson accounted for 322 yards of total offense (203 pass, 199 run), rushed for two touchdowns, passed for a touchdown, and caught a touchdown pass.
During his career, Richardson rushed for 2,095 yards, the most ever by a quarterback in SWC history.
He tallied four 100-yard rushing games.
Richardson played in three bowl games with the Aggies and helped them to SWC Championships in 1987 and 1991.
He played for the Houston Oilers from 1992-94.
Prior to the game, 12 of A&M?â„¢s NFL first round draft selections will be signing autographs and posing for photos in the Aggie Fan Zone presented by Cingular.
Scheduled to appear are: Patrick Bates, Bubba Bean, Reggie Brown, Quentin Coryatt, Curtis Dickey, Jacob Green, Greg Hill, Robert Jackson, Charlie Milstead, Gale Oliver, Kevin Smith and Richmond Webb.
The Aggie Fan Zone opens at 7:30 a.m. and is located at the north end of Kyle Field along Joe Routt Boulevard in front of G. Rollie White Coliseum.
