Laura Jones of Texas A&M has been named Big 12 Volleyball Player of the Week, along with Brandy Magee of Texas, the league office announced today.

Jones earned the honor for the second time this season and the fifth time in her career after averaging 7.54 points and 7.08 kills and hitting .263 to lead A&M to a 2-1 record last week. The senior outside hitter from Arlington, Texas (Martin High School), recorded match-high honors in kills and points in every match as well as double-figure digs.

Jones set A&M records with 38 kills and 42.5 points in the 3-2 loss at No. 10 Missouri. She also posted a career-high three solo blocks and surpassed 2,000 career kills against the Tigers.

Jones tallied 21 kills and 21.5 points along with 11 digs in a 3-0 victory over Texas Tech. Against Iowa State, Jones had 26 kills, 26.5 points and 17 digs to contribute to the 3-1 win in her last regular-season match at G. Rollie White Coliseum.

For the week, Jones had 85 kills to give her 670 for the season, breaking the previous Big 12 record of 622 established by Dawn Cady (Kansas State) in 1999. Jones has compiled a 6.09 kill average in 2005, which also sets the league mark, formerly held by Cady (5.71).

Magee led Texas to a 2-0 record last week, including an upset of No. 1 Nebraska. She averaged 4.94 points, 3.88 kills and 1.38 blocks in eight games.

Jones, who was named to the All-Big 12 First Team earlier today, leads the Aggies (16-13) to their 13th consecutive NCAA tournament when A&M takes on Northwestern Thursday at 4 p.m. (CST) at the Joyce Center in South Bend, Ind.
