Adrian McGowen, a senior at Goodrich [TX] High School who signed to play basketball at Texas A&M recently, scored 36 points on Thursday and needs 57 points to break the national high school girl?â„¢s basketball scoring record.
The state?â„¢s all-time leading scorer could set a new mark in games scheduled for Friday and Saturday. McGowen entered the season with 4,202 points to her credit.
Against Livingston in a tournament at Lufkin [TX] Hudson High School on Thursday, McGowen scored 36 points in a win. In her first five games this season, McGowen posted totals of 63, 24, 32, 48, and 45 points. She now has 4,450 career points.

McGowen, a 5-10 guard, is the state Preseason Class A Player of the Year.
McGowen, who averaged a state-best 53 points a game last season, will close the gap and could possibly break the scoring record during tournament play this weekend in Lufkin.
Goodrich High School will face Chireno in the semifinals on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Lufkin [TX] Hudson High School. The tournament concludes on Saturday.
Goodrich?â„¢s next game following the tournament is scheduled for Tuesday on its home court.
