Lee Fobbs has been named the head football coach at North Carolina A&T State in Greensboro, North Carolina. Fobbs served as the running backs coach at Texas A&M the past three seasons and has served with Aggie head coach Dennis Franchione the past five years.
?We hate to lose Lee as a member of our staff, but I am always pleased when members of my staff can become head coaches,? Franchione said. ?Lee has paid his dues and this is a great opportunity for him. We will miss Lee and his family. We wish them well.?
?It has always been my goal to become a head coach on the college level,? Fobbs said. ?Coach (Eddie) Robinson had quite an influence on my life and I feel fortunate to be in a position to influence others. I am going from being a Texas Aggie to a North Carolina A&T State Aggie.?
In addition to his three years at Texas A&M, Fobbs coached at Alabama (2001-02), Baylor (1997-2000), Minnesota (1996), Southern Mississippi (1995), LSU (1994), Tulane (1991-93) and Louisiana-Monroe (1989-90) on the collegiate level.
A 1973 graduate from Grambling State, Fobbs played for legendary coach Eddie Robinson and earned All-SWAC and All-America honors in 1972. He was drafted in the 8th round of the 1973 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. He played professionally in the Canadian Football League as well as the World Football League.
He started coaching as a graduate assistant at Grambling on Robinson?â„¢s staff in 1975 while earning his master?â„¢s degree in 1976. He coached several years on the high school level in Louisiana before taking his first collegiate position at Louisiana-Monroe.
Fobbs and his wife, Sheila, have three children.
