Adrian McGowen, a senior at Goodrich [TX] High School who signed to play basketball at Texas A&M recently, broke the national high school girl?â„¢s basketball career scoring record after recording 41 points against Chireno High School Tuesday night in Goodrich, Texas.
The nation?â„¢s new all-time leading scorer has 4,542 points to her credit.
The previous record holder was 4,506 points scored by Missy Thomas of Gibsland-Coleman (La.) from 1992-95.
McGowen scored 41 of her team?â„¢s 55 points in the 55-49 win.
In her first eight games this season, McGowen scored 299 points with posted totals of 63, 24, 32, 48, 45, 36, 23 and 28 points.
McGowen, a 5-10 guard, is the state Preseason Class A Player of the Year.
McGowen averaged a state-best 53 points a game last season.
