
Aggies Shut Down Savannah State, 67-34

Dominique Kirk scored a season-high 17 points to lead Texas A&M to a 67-34 victory against Savannah State on Saturday.
A&M was playing without its top two scorers, Acie Law and Joseph Jones, who missed the game with injuries. Law suffered a concussion last week against Grambling while Jones had a sprained ankle.
Savannah State's 34 points were the fewest by an A&M opponent since the 1958-59 season, when the Aggies defeated Texas, 73-59.
The Tigers also had 34 turnovers, tying for the second most by an opponent in A&M history. Southwest Texas had 37 turnovers against A&M in 1975-76 and Sam Houston State had 34 in 1977-78. A&M out-scored the Tigers on points off turnovers, 30-4.
The victory imrpoves the Aggies to 7-0 while Savannah State falls to 1-10.
A&M jumped out to a 19-4 lead and settled for a 36-16 halftime margin. The Aggies made 44.0 percent from the field while Savannah State made just 33.3 percent.
Antanas Kavaliauskas added a career-high 15 points while Martellus Bennett had 12 with a team-high six rebounds for the Aggies.
Savannah State had no players score in double figures. The Tigers were led by Terry Hill's nine points.
A&M plays host to Auburn on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at Reed Arena.
TEXAS A&M NOTES:

*Dominique Kirk scored a season-high 17 points, the second best of his career. He scored 18 last season against Alabama A&M.
*Antanas Kavaliauskas scored a career-high 15 points with a career-best 5 rebounds. Kavaliauskas has averaged 13.5 points in the last two games.
*Savannah State made just 33.3 percent (9-27) from the field, tying the season low by an A&M opponent. Tulane also made 33.3 percent (13-39).
*The Aggies are 24-3 at home under Billy Gillispie, including a 7-0 mark this season.
*A&M has won 20 straight regular-season non-conference games.
*Gillispie is 28-10 at A&M and is 52-18 in his last three years as a head coach.
