Notre Dame (30-3) is making its first appearance in the Round of 16 since 1997 after holding off Dayton, 3-2, and sweeping Northwestern ?- the team that eliminated Texas A&M, 3-2, in the first round ?- in South Bend, Ind. Wisconsin (25-6) used 3-0 victories against both Loyola Chicago and 16th-ranked California to advance. The Badgers, who are making their 10th consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament and 14th overall, advanced to the NCAA regional final in 2004, defeating second-ranked and No. 3-seed Hawaii in the Round of 16 before falling to eventual national-champion Stanford, 3-0, in the regional final in Green Bay, Wis.

Purdue (25-8) is making its second consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and its ninth overall after sweeping both Virginia Commonwealth and College of Charleston in the first two rounds held in Chapel Hill, N.C.
