Hello to all my devoted readers. It's about time that I make another T-kay's Point.
Right now, Aggieland has basketball fever! It's amazing how dedicated our fans are. Being here in College Station, I'm learning the true meaning of "die-hard fans."
Our team is 3-1 in Big 12 play. It's an impressive start, but for us it's an expected start. I think conference play is emerging full circle. Playing Big 12 games is another aspect of basketball that I must make a transition into. The type of atmosphere that we get to play in around the Big 12 is something you can't compare to non-conference games.
When we played non-conference games, my mindset was to get prepared for league play. That preparation consisted of finding ways to score when teams applied pressure defense. Mainly I focused on improving on all the little things to make my game more complete. Most importantly, staying mentally positive when I was not having a good offensive night while being able to still help my team in other areas on the court.
My first Big 12 road trip was to play Texas Tech. Our team really played well in front of about 10,000 fans, but we couldn't take advantage of four or five chances late to try to win the game. We were not happy at all with the outcome, but we had to put that behind us quickly.
Last week, we played two really good games and beat Kansas State at Reed Arena and then we won at Kansas.
I want to take a minute here to congratulate Morenike Atunrase for being named Big 12 Player of the Week after what she did for our team in both of those games.
Mo did not get to start in the home game against Kansas State, but when she got into the game she scored 17 points and right before halftime she outscored K-State 10-0. That was really important for us in the first half and helped us win the game.
Then, Sunday at Kansas, no one could stop Mo. She hit five three-pointers and blocked five shots and got her career-high of 29 points.
I continue to learn each day from my teammates and Mo showed me what it takes to come into the game regardless of if you got to start or not and still be able to take over the game to help the team win.
As of right now, our team is preparing to face some of the most competitive teams in the Big 12.
I hope as many of you that can will come out to our next home game which is Saturday, January 21 against Missouri at 7 p.m. We would love to have your support as we defend our home court against the Tigers.
T-kay
