The Texas A&M baseball team, led by first-year head coach Rob Childress, will continue its preparations for the 2006 season when they begin spring practices this Sunday, January 22.
?There is a lot of excitement around here to get things going,? Childress said. ?The players worked really hard in the fall and we should be able to hit the ground running this spring.?
All practices are open to the public. Sunday?â„¢s practice will begin at 1 p.m. and regular weekday practices will start at 2 p.m.
The Aggies return six starting position players, seven pitchers, and 14 total lettermen from the 2005 team.
The 2006 schedule should prove to be a tough test for the Aggies. Texas A&M will play 26 of its 56 games against 2005 NCAA Tournament teams, including 12 games against four teams which advanced to the College World Series ?- Florida, Nebraska, Baylor, and Texas.
?Since we started the season in the fall, we wanted the players to understand that there is a price we all have to pay to win,? Childress said. ?When our guys lay their heads on the pillow at night, there should be no doubt in their mind that they have outworked everybody.?
The Aggies start the 2006 season with 10 of their first 12 games at home. A&M will host Northwestern State (La.) to open the season on February 10 at 3 p.m.
Fans can purchase season and single-game tickets by calling the Texas A&M Athletic Ticket Office at (979) 845-2311 or (888) 99-AGGIE. Fans can also logon to 12thManFoundation.com to place ticket orders.
