The 6th-ranked Texas A&M softball team (3-2) returns to the Aggie Softball Complex to kick-off the 2006 home schedule with a doubleheader against the University of Texas-San Antonio (4-1) on Wed. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. with the second game scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.

"We are excited to come home and play in our stadium in front of our home crowd," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "Our fans created an amazing atmosphere last season and I expect the same kind of support this season. We are a young team and our young players will flourish behind the support of such enthusiastic fans. I look forward to seeing how our team bounces back from our tournament in Arizona and to the opportunity of being at home for the next week."

The Aggies participated in the Kajikawa Classic held in Tempe, Ariz. this past weekend. They posted a 3-2 record, beating No. 17 Fresno State, Nevada and Syracuse before falling to No. 5 Arizona and No. 12 Oregon State.

The last time A&M and UTSA met (2/9/05), Evans recorded her 600th and 601st career wins as the then No. 23 Aggies swept the Roadrunners 6-5 and 1-0 at the Aggie Softball Complex.

Leading the way for UTSA, this season, in hitting is senior, Mel Torres who was 11-for-19 this past weekend, at the Las Cruces Hilton Invitational held in New Mexico. Torres scored seven runs and racked-up 10 RBI resulting in a .579 batting average. Freshman Brittany Cantu and senior Amanda Horton have each driven in eight RBI on the season.

Roadrunner pitcher, Amanda Nikolenko (3-1), has thrown 18 innings allowing eight runs, six earned while striking out 15 batters for a 3.00 ERA.

First team NFCA All-American, Amanda Scarborough, holds the Aggie lead in batting average, hitting .400 with six hits and four RBI.

Fellow All-American, Megan Gibson, has a 2.15 ERA, in the circle for A&M, throwing 13 innings in two appearances, striking out 11 batters while allowing five runs, four earned. Gibson has a .818 slugging percentage, belting two homeruns on Friday in Tempe.
