"Houston is on a roll and playing very well," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "They are hitting the ball well and playing solid defense. The doubleheader will be a good test for us and will help prepare us for the great competition we will face in Palm Springs this weekend. I am pleased with our progress so far and I am anxious to see us compete against another strong opponent."

The Aggies are coming off a home tournament weekend shortened by bad weather. In the two games A&M was able to play, they went 2-0 with wins over Southeastern Louisiana and Fordham.

A&M holds a 4-2 lead over Houston in the all-time series. The two teams last met in 2005 at the Cougar Softball Field in Houston. The Aggies won both games of the doubleheader (10-2, 10-6).

The 12-2 win over Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, on Sunday, marked the third time in program history that Houston has won 10 consecutive games, and the first time since the 2004 season.

The leading hitter for Houston is freshman, shortstop, Jessica Valis. In 40 at bats, Valis has 19 hits and two RBI for a .475 batting average. Cougar head coach, Kyla Holas, is in her sixth season with the program.

A freshman shortstop is also leading the way for the Aggie bats. After this past week of play, Holly Ridley leads the team in batting average (.364) and on base percentage (.440). Ridley has gone 6 for 9 in the Aggies' last four games. She's hit three singles, two doubles, a homerun and has been walked twice.

The 2006 season marks Evans' 10th year at A&M, where she's amassed a 339-192-2 overall record.

First pitch of the two-game set will start at 5:00 p.m. with the second game to follow at 7:00 p.m.
