The Texas A&M soccer team begins their non-traditional season Saturday at the Aggie Soccer Stadium as they take on the Challenge Soccer Club at 6:00 p.m. and the USA Region III ODP team at 8:00 p.m.
"The spring portion of our team calendar is committed to the development and growth of our individual players,? commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. ?Being able to play talented teams allows us to work on the tools and techniques we'll need to be great this fall; the time when we'll be striving to win championships."
Saturday?â„¢s matches will showcase every member of the 2006 roster except for goalkeeper Kristin Arnold (Centennial, CO). Aggie signees Amber Gnatzig, Whitney Hooper, and Nicole Ketchum will compete for the USA Region III ODP team.
Red-shirt players from 2005, Nicky Benningfield, Cydne Currie, Natalie Currie and Elisabeth Jones will all suit-up for the Aggies for the first time this year.
"The Big 12 Championship we won in the fall of 2004 and defended, winning the championship again in 2005, came from the development and hard work the girls put forth in the preceding spring (non-traditional) season,? said Guerrieri.
The Aggies will play 11 games on six separate days during the spring season. Visit www.AggieSoccer.com for more information regarding the spring schedule.
Admittance to all the games is free and parking is available in the Reed Arena Parking area or the West Campus Parking Garage.
