"Sam Houston is always a tough opponent," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "They had a great season last year and beat some very good teams. We know we will have our work cut out for us. Amanda Scarborough had a great outing in her last start and I look for her to pick-up where she left off."
The Aggies are looking to get back on track after finishing the Palm Springs Classic 1-4, beating UNLV 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh on a homerun by senior Rocky Spencer.
Sam Houston competed in the University of Houston tournament last weekend, also going 1-4, with their only win being an 8-0 run-rule of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Leading the way for Bearkat hitters is second baseman Lauren Boone who is sporting a .414 batting average. Following Boone is Elizabeth Gibson who is hitting .345.
Scarborough will get the nod for the Aggies in the circle. She's 4-3 on the season with a 3.39 ERA. Scarborough has struck out 48 batters thus far. Sophomores Jamie Hinshaw (.319) and Megan Gibson (.302) are the Aggies' top hitters. Both Hinshaw and Gibson have driven in 11 RBI. Gibson who belted 18 homeruns in 2005 has six this season.
A&M leads the all-time series against Sam Houston, 70-13. When the two faced-off in 2005, Sharonda McDonald scored from third on an eighth-inning wild pitch to give the Aggies a 4-3 victory.
