The Texas A&M football team opened its 2006 Spring Drills with a two-hour practice in shorts and helmets at the Aggies?â„¢ grass practice fields on Friday.
The workout marked the maroon and white debut of four first-year Aggie coaches: Gary Darnell (defensive coordinator / linebackers), Bill Clay (safeties), Bob DeBesse (wide receivers) and Van Malone (cornerbacks), as well as 2006 signees and early enrollees Cody Beyer and Mark Dodge.
Texas A&M?â„¢s all-time leading receiver and current Green Bay Packer Terrence Murphy was in attendance at the workout and will lend his support to the 2005 seniors that will participate in the annual Pro Day on Saturday.
Aggie head coach Dennis Franchione announced that fifth-year seniors Quinlin Germany and Taylor Schuster will be graduating this spring and have decided to forego their final season of eligibility.
On the injury front, Franchione announced that offensive lineman Kevin Bryan will not participate during the spring due to an illness. Several Aggies will be limited during the spring: defensive back Japhus Brown, linebacker Nurahda Manning, linebacker Stephen Hodge, defensive lineman Jason Jack, defensive lineman Henry Smith, wide receiver Earvin Taylor, defensive lineman William Morrisey and wide receiver Chad Schroeder.
There were also two jersey number changes: quarterback Stephen McGee switched from #15 to #7 and defensive back Melvin Bullitt switched from #18 to #33, which was also the number worn by his father Jerry Bullitt, who played linebacker from the Aggies from 1980-83.
