The 15th-ranked Texas A&M baseball team will be part of a six-team field to play in the 2006 UTSA Baseball Express Collegiate classic this weekend at Nelson Wolff Stadium in San Antonio.

A&M enters the weekend with an overall record of 13-3 after dropping a close 6-4 decision to Texas State on Tuesday.

The Aggies entered all the polls after winning two of three games at then fifth-ranked Florida last weekend. The Aggie pitching staff twirled a pair of shutouts against the Gators and allowed only four runs on the weekend.

A&M will play Notre Dame, Louisiana-Lafayette, UT-San Antonio and Illinois. Iowa will also be in the tournament.

The Aggies are a combined 34-18 against the four teams they will play this weekend.

Notre Dame enters the weekend with a record of 2-5 after dropping games to Nebraska, Minnesota and Arizona at the DQ Classic in Minneapolis last weekend. Louisiana-Lafayette has a record of 6-3 after a 8-0 win over Nicholls State on Tuesday. UTSA owns a record of 8-7 and have won their last four games and Illinois is 3-3 after a three-game sweep of Central Florida last weekend.


TICKETS


Fans can purchase tickets to this weekend's games at Wolff Stadium at the Wolff stadium Box Office on game day. Tickets to all Texas A&M home games can be purchased by calling the Texas A&M Athletic Ticket Office at (979) 845-2311 or (888) 99-AGGIE. Fans may also purchase tickets online at 12thmanfoundation.com. The gates at Olsen Field open 90 minutes prior to first pitch for non-conference games and two hours prior to first pitch for conference games.


RADIO


All Texas A&M baseball games will be broadcast live on WTAW AM-1620. Dave South, The Voice of the Aggies, will call the action and will be assisted throughout the season by Tom Turbiville, Chuck Glenewinkel and Gabe Bock. The pre-game show will begin 30 minutes prior to the start of each game.

PROBABLE TEXAS A&M STARTING ROTATION


  • GAME 1: Kyle Nicholson - Junior - RHP
    Kyle Nicholson, a junior righty, will start the first game of the weekend for the fifth weekend in a row. He enters the game with a record of 3-0 and an ERA of 2.08. Nicholson has 20 strikeouts and just three walks in 21 2/3 innings. He is averaging 5.33 innings per start. Nicholson earned the win in his first start against Northwestern State (2/10) by tossing 5 1/3 innings and allowing four runs - one earned - on seven hits. He lasted just four innings in his second start of the season against Northern Colorado (2/17). He rebounded with a solid outing (6 1/3 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 6 K) to earn his second win of the year against UNC Greensboro (2/24) and threw six shutout innings against Florida.

  • GAME 2: Kyle Thebeau - Freshman - RHP
    Kyle Thebeau, a true freshman, will be the second-game starter for the fifth straight week. Thebeau has a record of 1-1 and a sparkling ERA of 1.21. He has 20 strikeouts and nine walks in 22 1/3 innings on the mound and is averaging 5.58 innings per start. He earned his first career win against Northern Colorado (2/17) by tossing six scoreless innings and allowing just one hit and striking out nine. Against Utah (2/25), he lasted only four innings, allowing four hits and one run before throwing seven-complete innings against Florida.

  • GAME 3: Austin Creps - Junior - RHP
    Austin Creps, a junior right-hander and Texas Collegiate League Pitcher of the Year, will also be making his fifth start of the season. Creps has pitched a total of 26 2/3 innings in his previous four starts and has allowed just 18 hits on the season. He owns a record of 3-0, an ERA of 1.01 and is averaging 6.67 innings per start. Creps was the tough-luck loser in a game against Missouri State, allowing three runs in five innings of work in the 3-2 loss. He came back strong with a 7 1/3 inning performance against Florida where he allowed three hits, struck out five and did not walk a man.

  • GAME 4: Chance Corgan - Sophomore - RHP
    Chance Corgan, a sophomore right-hander, will get his fifth start of the season for A&M. He has thrown 17 1/3 innings and is averaging 4.33 innings per outing. He has a record of 2-0 and an ERA of 4.67. He has allowed only 17 hits and has fanned 24 hitters, while walking 11. In his last outing, Corgan was chased in the second by Texas State, but did not figure in the decision.

SERIES INFORMATION


Texas A&M is 34-18 all-time versus their four opponents this weekend.

Of the four, the Aggies have played Texas-San Antonio the most, winning 14 of the 21 games between the two schools. Last season, A&M and the Roadrunners split two games. A&M has won six of the last 10 meetings.

The Aggies own an all-time record of 11-7 against Louisiana-Lafayette. The last meeting between them, was at the Minute Maid Classic in Houston. Texas A&M won the game, 11-1.

A&M has won seven of the nine meetings against Illinois. The two teams have not played since the 1995 season, when the Aggies split two games with Illinois.

Texas A&M and Notre Dame have played only three times. A&M leads the series, 2-1, including a 13-5 win over the Fighting Irish at the Round Rock College Classic in 2005.
