"Kansas had a great season defensively last year and I expect them to be very solid on defense again," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "They lead the conference in homeruns, so our pitchers will have to be right on."
The Aggies are coming off a conference opener in which it defeated the Lady Bears of Baylor, 4-3, on an eighth-inning homerun by senior Rocky Spencer.
"Our team is playing well and gaining confidence with each win," Evans continued. "Our win against Baylor was a great way to start the conference season and we need to take that confidence into this weekend and the rest of our Big 12 season."
On Monday, KU, dropped a 6-2 decision to No. 17 Northwestern (15-6). The game against A&M on Saturday will serve as the Jayhawks' first Big 12 game of the season.
Megan Gibson continues to be the Aggies' dominating force at the plate. She's currently batting .311 with eight homeruns and 20 RBI. In the circle, Gibson is 10-3 with a 2.51 ERA. She's struckout 55 batters in 78 innings of work.
Senior infielder, Destiny Frakenstein is the leading hitter for Kansas with a .329 batting average in 29 games played. She's hit nine homeruns and driven in 20 runs.
Last season, the Aggies won both games played at Arrocha Ballpark in Kansas (13-1, 7-1). In the Sunday game, Sharonda McDonald stole three bases to secure the No. 1 spot in the Aggies' career leaders for stolen bases. A&M leads the all-time series 36-14.
