The defending 2004 and 2005 Big 12 Champion Texas A&M soccer team hosted its Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday evening in the Zone Club at Kyle Field.

During the banquet, several players and staff were recognized for their academic and athletics achievements over the past year, including those honors received from various soccer media organizations and associations outside Texas A&M University.

?Our awards banquet has developed into a wonderful event,? commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. ?Holding the event in The Zone Club at Kyle Field is great, and it was great to see so many (approximately 200) people in attendance to honor our players who work so hard all year long to represent Texas A&M on the soccer field and in the community.?

The awards distributed at the banquet ranged from position MVP?â„¢s, who contributed to the team?â„¢s success on the field, to those accolades which highlighted the athlete who most exemplified the spirit of Aggieland.

?The awards presented at the banquet represent not just statistical accomplishments, but also some special awards that are voted on by the players for their teammates,? Guerrieri noted. ?Often times it is that award (which comes from your peers) which can mean the most to the highly competitive athlete.?

The Aggie soccer team will host its final spring home game on Friday against the Chinese National Select team. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.

?I continue to be very proud of all of our players, and am impressed at how they?â„¢re not content with the great success they?â„¢ve already achieved,? Guerrieri concluded. ?They want more, and are working hard everyday to accomplish their lofty goals.?
