Texas A&M Head Football Coach Dennis Franchione announced the 2006 Leadership Council. Coach Fran has used a Leadership Council since his days at New Mexico and the council serves in an advisory role.
"These 14 players were selected by their teammates and they are a very important part of this team," Coach Fran said. "They provide needed input and assistance in the way we operate as a team. I thought the team did an excellent job with their selections."
Members of the Leadership Council are: quarterback Ty Branyon, defensive lineman Red Bryant, defensive back Melvin Bullitt, linebacker Mark Dodge, offensive lineman Kirk Elder, defensive back Devin Gregg, defensive lineman Chris Harrington, linebacker Nick LaMantia, quarterback Stephen McGee, wide receiver L'Tydrick Riley, wide receiver Chad Schroeder, wide receiver Earvin Taylor, offensive lineman Cody Wallace and linebacker Justin Warren.
Coach Fran also announced the naming of the spring awards after consultation with over 100 Aggie football lettermen and a vote of fans. The 2006 award winners are the players selected as the most improved at their position as well as a special E. King Gill Spirit Award.

The Leadership Council was split and conducted a draft of the team for the Maroon & White football game, presented by HEB. Quarterback Stephen McGee won the toss and elected to pick first and he named center Cody Wallace. The complete squads can be found on AggieAthletics.com.
The staff was split and offensive coordinator Les Koenning will head up the Maroon squad, while defensive coordinator Gary Darnell leads the White team.
