Sophomore placekicker Richie Bean?â„¢s field goal with six seconds remaining boosted the White team to a 27-24 victory over the Maroon team on Saturday in the Maroon & White Game Presented by HEB at Kyle Field.

The Whites needed Bean?â„¢s 40-yard field goal for the win after the Maroons connected on a 61-yard touchdown pass and catch from senior Ty Branyon to sophomore Howard Morrow that knotted the score at 24-24 with 1:25 remaining.

The game was a back and forth affair with two ties and five lead changes, but neither team ever had more than a seven-point lead.

The White team, which was led by quarterbacks Stephen McGee and Jamie McCoy, generated 296 yards of total offense, averaged 7.0 yards per play and was turnover-free. The Whites rushed for 204 yards with four players rushing for more than 32 yards, including a team high 45 yards by McCoy. McGee hit 4-of-4 passes for 22 yards, while McCoy completed 6-of-7 passes for 70 yards.

The Maroon offense was almost as effective with 279 total yards and a 6.6 per play average. The Maroons were led by running backs Keondra Smith and Jorvorskie Lane, who combined for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Quarterback Ty Branyon directed the Maroon attack with 7-of-12 passing for a game-high 140 yards.

Leading tacklers for the White team were senior defensive back Matt LaFon with six stops and senior linebacker Justin Warren with five tackles. Pacing the Maroons was sophomore defensive back Arkeith Brown with a game-high eight stops, while Matt Featherston, Alton Dixon and Matt Dodge all contributed six hits.
