Carson Kainer (Texas), Ryan LaMotta (Baylor) and Jason Meyer (Texas A&M) have been chosen as Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Baseball Player and Co-Pitchers of the Week in voting by a panel of media covering Big 12 baseball for games played Apr. 4-10. It is the second career Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honor for Meyer and first conference recognition for both Kainer and LaMotta.
- Player: Carson Kainer, Jr., OF, 6-1, 210, Texas (Tomball, Texas)
Kainer batted a team-best .733 (11-for-15) while scoring one run, connecting on his second home run of the year, stealing two bases, doubling three times, and drove in nine runs in a three-game sweep at Kansas State - seven with two outs. He amassed 17 total bases for a 1.133 slugging percentage and had a .733 on-base mark in the three conference contests. Riding a season-long, five-game hitting streak, he batted .750 (6-for-8) and .833 (5-for-6), respectively, with runners on base and in scoring position. He had career-high four-hit performances in Games 1 and 3 of the series at Manhattan, Kan.
- Co-Pitchers: Ryan LaMotta, Sr., 6-0, 195, Baylor (Sugar Land, Texas)
LaMotta allowed just three hits, struck out four and walked two in shutting out Oklahoma State 14-0 last Friday night. He also tossed Baylor's first complete-game shutout since March 20, 2004, in just his 12th career start and accomplished the feat against an OSU team that was hitting .331 overall at first pitch. All three hits he allowed were singles, and he did not allow a hit after a leadoff single in the third inning in the 102-pitch outing. LaMotta also extended a personal scoreless innings' streak to 19 1/3.
- Jason Meyer, Jr., 5-10, 180, Texas A&M (Abilene, Texas)
Meyer, making just his third start of the season, carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning of last Friday's victory over No. 16 Oklahoma. He finished the game by allowing one run on one hit by Chuckie Caulfield in the last frame while striking out six Sooners' hitters. Meyer earned his first win of the season in his first Friday night start since April 22, 2005. In his three starts this season, Meyer has allowed only 12 hits in 21 1/3 innings. He has 17 strikeouts, and opponents are hitting .169.
