"Iowa State is a dangerous team," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "Last year they went into Austin and beat Texas on their home field and they are capable, this season, of beating very good teams. They have a new coach, Stacey Gemeinhart, who is doing a great job."
The Aggies enter the weekend having swept the Oklahoma State Cowgirls in a mid-week doubleheader in Stillwater. A&M won the first game 6-3 before scattering a season high 14 hits in game two to bring into effect a 16-8 run-rule.
"Our team is coming off two good wins against Oklahoma State," Evans continued. "I am pleased with how well we hit the ball and the adjustments our pitchers made against some very good hitters. We need to carry the momentum of Wednesday's wins into this weekend."
Iowa State dropped its Wednesday home game 6-1 to Northern Iowa. A rare triple play turned by the Panthers stifled any comeback the Cyclones were trying to build.
At the plate, Megan Gibson has driven in 30 runs on 10 home runs and eight doubles this season. Gibson's .324 batting average is second on the team to Jamie Hinshaw's .331. Hinshaw has 23 RBI on the year with four home runs, two triples and six doubles.
In the circle for A&M, Gibson and Amanda Scarborough are sporting very similar numbers. Gibson has a 14-4 record with a 2.45 ERA in 114.1 innings of work, whereas Scarborough is 13-5 with a 2.35 ERA in 113.1 innings on the mound.
Iowa State catcher, Ashley Killeen has a .350 batting average for the Cyclones. She's driven in 29 runs with six home runs and six doubles. On the mound for ISU, Katy-native, Amie Ford has a 2.05 ERA in 123 innings of work. Ford has struck out 117 opposing batters.
The Aggies and Cyclones met twice last season in College Station. A&M won both games (3-0, 4-2) to increase the all-time series to 24-4 in the Aggies' favor.
