Former Texas A&M softball great, Shawn Andaya, along with nine other former student-athletes and one coach have been named to the NCAA Division I Softball 25th Anniversary Team for their outstanding achievements while participating in NCAA competition, the association announced this week.
?Shawn Andaya was a huge part of the Texas Aggie softball program,? said A&M head coach Jo Evans. ?It is a tremendous honor for our program to have Shawn recognized as a member of the 25th Anniversary Team.?
Andaya, the only member of the 25th Anniversary team not from an Arizona or California university, played for the Aggies during the 1984-87 seasons. In her four years on the Aggie softball team, Andaya was a three-time All-American (1984-second team; 1985-second team; 1987-first team) and was three-times named to the College World Series All-Tournament Team (1984, 1986 and 1987).
During 1987, Andaya led the nation in strikeouts (326) and in victories (36). She also earned the win in the circle in the 1987 National Championship game. Andaya joined the ranks of other Aggie greats in 1992 when she was inducted into the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame.
Andaya is married to Al Pulliam, with whom she has two sons, AJ and Trey. The couple resides in the Bryan/College Station community, where Andaya is the Director of the Children?â„¢s Museum in Bryan.
The Division I Softball 25th Anniversary Team was selected by an expert panel affiliated with softball. The panel, which consisted of current and former coaches and athletics administrators, used historical data and results from online public voting at www.ncaasports.com to make its decision.
