Sharonda McDonald registered the only hit for the No. 15 Texas A&M softball team (30-13, 9-4) as it dropped a 5-0 decision to the No. 19 Baylor Lady Bears (29-17, 8-5), Wednesday night in front of 1,128 fans at the Aggie Softball Complex.

?I thought (Lisa) Ferguson did a good job of throwing the ball in and out,? commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. ?We didn?â„¢t do a good job of adjusting in terms of hitting the ball on the ground. We hit a lot of lazy fly balls to the outfield. I felt that if we could make their team play defense in the infield that would help us out and give us a chance.?

The Lady Bears scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth. Freshman, Brette Reagan reached on walk and came around to score on a passed ball and later an error by short stop Holly Ridley.

Baylor?â„¢s Miriam Romero was able to add another run in the fifth after she reached on an infield single. Kelly Osburn moved Romero to second on a sac bunt and Reagan recorded the RBI on a single up the middle.

In the sixth the Lady Bears posted three more runs, putting them up 5-0. Kylie Conroy reached on a fielder?â„¢s choice and scored on Tessa Lynam?â„¢s double into the right center field gap. Jordan Daniels followed up with a single into center field. Lynam advanced home with a steal and Daniels to second on A&M catcher, Patti Wunderlich?â„¢s throwing error. A wild pitch by Amanda Scarborough allowed Daniels to score Baylor?â„¢s final run of the inning.

McDonald?â„¢s hit came in her last at bat in the bottom of the sixth, an infield single to Baylor shortstop Harmony Schwethelm. A&M?â„¢s Jamie Hinshaw snapped her eight-game hitting streak with an 0-for-2 night. However, Hinshaw did reach on a walk in the sixth.

Scarborough (14-6) worked a complete game giving up five runs on six hits, three walks and struck out four batters.

?I really thought that Scarborough threw well,? Evans said. ?I thought she did a great job against Kelly Osburn, Schwethelm and Chelsi Lake. Those kids are kids that can really hit the long ball and hurt you, but what happened is that they had other kids step up and make things happen for their team. We just didn?â„¢t.?

Lisa Ferguson improved to 16-11 with the one hit shutout.

A&M remains at the Aggie Softball Complex this weekend as they host the Missouri Tigers in a two-game series. Saturday?â„¢s game will be televised on Cox Sports with a 12:00 p.m. start-time.
