The No. 6-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team was in fourth place when play was suspended because of lightning on Monday at the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at Southern Hills Country Club.
The Aggies are 18-over-par midway through the second round and trail leader Oklahoma (+7) by 11 strokes. First-round play was suspended at 1:40 p.m. because of heavy thunderstorms and resumed at 3:45 after a two-hour delay. The second round was suspended at 7:30 p.m. Play will resume at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, followed immediately by the final round.
"We played probably the worst golf we've played all year but the silver lining is that we still have a chance to win," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "There are a lot of holes left to play and we just need to come out tomorrow and play our game. We weren't as focused today as we have been and made some mistakes we don't normally make. We had at least 10 three-putts and the greens weren't playing all that fast."
A&M carded a nine-over 289 in the opening round and trailed by four shots. Sophomore Robert Gates led the way with an even-par 70, while sophomore Martin Piller and freshman Bronson Burgoon each shot 72. Senior Jerad Harklau had a 75 and senior Andrew Parr carded a 76.
No. 14 Texas Tech is in second place at +10, followed by No. 23 Texas (+11), A&M (+18), Nebraska (+21), No. 2 Oklahoma State (+22), Kansas (+22), No. 12 Baylor (+23), Colorado (+24), Kansas State (+24), Iowa State (+34) and Missouri (+35).
Oklahoma's Brodie Flanders is the individual leader at two-under through 33 holes after opening with a 69. Kansas Gary Woodland is the only other player under par at -1 through 30 holes.
Piller is tied for 12th at +2 through 30 holes. Burgoon and Gates are tied for 18th at +4 (27 holes), Harklau is tied for 30th at +8 (27 holes) and Parr is tied for 39th at +10 (30 holes).
