April 25, 2006

Nick Jaros (Nebraska), Brae Wright (Oklahoma State) and Jason Meyer (A&M) have been chosen as Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week in voting by a panel of media covering Big 12 baseball for games played Apr. 18-24. This is the third career Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honor for Meyer and first honors for both Karos and Wright.

Co-Pitchers:

Jason Meyer, Jr., 5-10, 180, Texas A&M (Abilene, Texas)

Meyer shut down Baylor for eight innings in a 4-2 victory at College Station last Friday while striking out a season-high 10 batters, walking none, allowing six hits, and two runs (both earned). He raised his record in Big 12 games to 2-1. Meyer was also named the Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week on April 11.

Brae Wright, So., 6-5, 205, Oklahoma State (Southaven, Miss.)

On Apr. 22 Wright pitched a 4-0 shutout against Missouri and did not allow a baserunner to get to second. The Tigers grounded into five double plays as he pitched the complete game nine-inning blanking, walked none, struck out five, and faced the minimum 27 batters - thanks to the defensive play behind him. He improved to 5-2 with the win to pace OSU and tossed his second complete game in Big 12 play.

Player:

Nick Jaros, Jr., OF, 5-11, 205, Nebraska (Platte City, Neb.)

Jaros batted .563(9-for-16) with two homers, five RBIs and eight runs scored in helping the Huskers to a 4-1 week. He notched a 1.063 slugging percentage and recorded three multi-hit games, including his first career four-hit game. He returned after missing three games with a hand injury to go 4-for-5 with two homers (his first career multi-homer game), four RBIs and four runs scored against Nebraska-Kearney and then went 5-for-11 (.455) with a game-preserving catch in the Huskers' 7-5 win at Texas. NU captured 2-of-3 contests against the No. 5 nationally Longhorns.
