Rocky Spencer recorded the only hit of the game for No. 15 Texas A&M (32-14, 11-5) as No. 2 Texas (46-5, 12-2) came away with its second 1-0 victory over the Aggies, this season, in front of 2,053 fans Wednesday, in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown at the Aggie Softball Complex.

?I told the kids this is a game you can learn something from,? commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. ?I told them to think about the level of intensity you have to play at (to win) and I thought our kids really showed up to play. I thought they played hard and with a lot of heart and I thought the crowd was amazing. They (the crowd) stayed in there until the end with us.?

Texas scored the only run of the game in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Amber Hall lined a single into center field and soon after, stole second base. With Hall at second, catcher Megan Willis singled to left to drive in what would prove to be the winning run. The RBI was Willis?â„¢ 22nd of the season.

Spencer?â„¢s hit came in the bottom of the seventh with two outs to move Megan Gibson into scoring position. The single was a line shot into left field. However, A&M was not successful in advancing either Gibson or Spencer any further.

After walking in the top of the seventh, Gibson served as the only Aggie to reach scoring position. UT?â„¢s ace, Cat Osterman threw a complete game, one-hit shutout en route to her 30th victory of the season. Osterman struck out 12 A&M hitters and walked three.

?Some of the kids took Cat into full counts and when that happens you have to find ways to finish it off and we weren?â„¢t able to do that,? Evans said. ?We still have a few games to play and I think we will have a lot of success, we just have to pay attention to how we approach the game.?

Scarborough fell to 15-7 with the loss. She worked a full seven innings allowing one run on four hits. She struck out four and allowed just one free pass.

The 2,053 that packed the stands set this season?â„¢s attendance record. The crowd ranked second all-time to last year?â„¢s 2,341 that filled the complex to see the Aggies down the Longhorns, 5-3.

A&M will travel to Lincoln, Neb. to finish the regular season with a pair of games against the Huskers, this weekend. Live audio can be heard locally on 1150 The Zone and live stats will be available on AggieAthletics.com.
